Our free forklift practice test has 20 multiple-choice questions based on the topics in 29 CFR 1910.178. It scores you instantly and explains each answer, so you can see why a choice is right or wrong. It is free, needs no account, and you can take it as many times as you like.

    What the questions cover

The practice test draws on the same subjects the self-paced online course covers, including:

    • Pre-operation inspection
    • Load handling and capacity
    • The stability triangle
    • Travelling on grades and ramps
    • Pedestrian safety and obstructed vision
    • Parking and leaving a truck unattended
    • Refueling and battery charging

    How to use it

    1. Take it cold once to find the topics you are unsure about.
    2. Read the explanation for every question you miss.
    3. Take it again after a day or two.

A practice score is not a certificate. It is a study aid.

How it relates to the real exam

After completing the self-paced lessons, operators take a multiple-choice exam. The passing score is 70%, and retakes are free and unlimited. Passing the exam and completing the class covers the formal-instruction part of 29 CFR 1910.178(l); the employer then completes the practical evaluation in the workplace.

    Other free tools

The free tools page also has a printable pre-shift inspection checklist, a hand signals guide, a renewal reminder and a cost calculator.
